Goethes Werke: Autobiographische Schriften, 2

This volume is part of the Hamburg edition (Hamburger Ausgabe) of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's works, a monumental scholarly undertaking initiated in the mid-20th century. Edited by Erich Trunz and published by Christian Wegner Verlag, the series was designed to provide a comprehensive, critical collection of Goethe's writings for both academic researchers and a general educated readership during the post-war period of German cultural reconstruction.

The 'Autobiographische Schriften' (Autobiographical Writings) volumes are central to this edition, meticulously curated to provide critical context for Goethe's life and intellectual development. The design focuses on readability and scholarly rigor, featuring extensive annotations and commentary that have established this edition as a definitive reference for German literary studies throughout the latter half of the century.
