Goethes Werke: IV. Abteilung 3. Band

This volume is part of the Weimarer Ausgabe, also known as the Sophien-Ausgabe, which remains the most comprehensive historical-critical edition of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's writings. Commissioned by Grand Duchess Sophie of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in the late 19th century, the project aimed to catalog the entirety of the poet's output, including his extensive correspondence and scientific papers, reflecting the rigorous scholarly standards of the German academic tradition at the time.

The fourth section of the edition is dedicated specifically to Goethe's letters. This third volume in that series encompasses documents that provide intimate insight into the intellectual climate of the late 18th century. Designed with the austere, traditional aesthetic characteristic of academic publishing in the Weimar era, the series prioritizes archival accuracy and textual clarity, serving as the definitive reference point for researchers exploring Goethe's vast personal and professional network.
