Goethes Werke: IV. Abteilung 14. Band

This volume is part of the Weimarer Ausgabe, also known as the Sophien-Ausgabe, which was commissioned by the Grand Duchess Sophie of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in the late 19th century. The goal of this monumental project was to create the first complete, scholarly edition of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's works, organized into four distinct divisions. The fourteenth volume of the fourth division contains a portion of Goethe's extensive correspondence, providing essential primary source material for researchers and historians studying the literary and intellectual climate of the period.

The editorial rigor of the series set a standard for German philology that persists to this day. While the aesthetic design of the individual volumes reflects the traditional, utilitarian scholarship of the late Imperial era, the project as a whole was a massive undertaking that drew upon the expertise of the leading Goethe scholars of the time. The series remains highly regarded in academic circles for its comprehensive nature and its role in preserving the vast archival legacy of one of literature's most prolific figures.
