Where it came from
Legend of the Stars - Agartha was created by the prolific manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori, a foundational figure in the medium often referred to as the king of manga. This work emerged during a period in the 1970s when Ishinomori was deeply invested in exploring cosmic themes and speculative science fiction, blending his characteristic dynamic action with more philosophical inquiries into lost civilizations and human mythology.
The series is noted for its imaginative, high-concept narrative and Ishinomori's signature energetic linework, which helped bridge the gap between traditional adventure manga and more mature, thought-provoking storytelling. While it remains a niche entry in his massive bibliography, it is respected by scholars and collectors of his work for its reflection of the creative restlessness that defined his later career.
