Orlando Furioso di messer Ludovico Ariosto secondo l'edizione del 1532 per cura di Ottavio Morali

This edition of Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, published in Milan in 1818 by the editor Ottavio Morali, was intentionally based on the definitive 1532 version of the epic poem. By selecting this text, Morali sought to preserve the linguistic refinements and stylistic adjustments Ariosto applied to his masterpiece shortly before his death, moving away from the more common, corrupted versions that had circulated in the intervening centuries.

The publication emerged during a period of renewed Italian nationalist interest in the Renaissance classics, which sought to standardize the literary canon for a nineteenth-century readership. Morali’s editorial approach was scholarly and meticulous, aimed at providing a clean, authoritative text that honored the integrity of the original Ferrarese vernacular. It was well-received by contemporary bibliophiles for its clarity and scholarly rigor, serving as an important bridge between the sixteenth-century original and modern critical editions.
