Orlando furioso secondo l'edizione del 1532 per cura di Ottavio Morali

The Orlando Furioso, originally penned by Ludovico Ariosto, stands as a cornerstone of Italian Renaissance literature. This specific volume, curated by Ottavio Morali and published in Milan in 1818, serves as a critical edition intended to preserve the integrity of the 1532 version. The 1532 edition is historically significant as it represents the final authorized text revised by Ariosto himself before his passing, marking the definitive conclusion of his extensive work on the epic poem.

Ottavio Morali’s editorial project was part of a broader 19th-century intellectual movement in Italy dedicated to restoring canonical literary texts to their most authentic forms. By anchoring his work in the 1532 edition, Morali sought to strip away the accretions and textual corruptions that had accumulated in various reprints over the preceding centuries. The edition is noted for its careful scholarly approach, which aimed to honor Ariosto’s complex narrative structure and linguistic precision, eventually becoming a respected reference for scholars and bibliophiles interested in the evolution of the chivalric epic.
