The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time

Published by the Clarendon Press in 1912, this two-volume definitive collection was edited by Ernest Hartley Coleridge, the grandson of the poet. It represented the most comprehensive attempt at the time to curate Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s body of work, incorporating previously unpublished drafts and variations that had remained in family archives. The goal of the project was to provide a scholarly, authoritative text that reconciled the sprawling and often fragmented nature of the poet's literary output for a new generation of academics.

The editorial rigor applied by E. H. Coleridge was highly regarded for its precision and its respectful treatment of the poet's intellectual evolution. By including versions of poems that had not appeared in earlier authorized collections, the work provided essential insights into the creative process of one of the foundational figures of Romanticism. It remains a standard reference for scholars studying the nuances of Coleridge’s verse and his shifting thematic preoccupations throughout his life.
