Theodor Körners sämmtliche Werke

Theodor Körner’s complete works represent a cornerstone of German Romantic literature, capturing the fervent spirit of the Napoleonic Wars. Körner, who perished in the Battle of Gadebusch at the age of twenty-one, became a martyr figure for German nationalism; his collected writings, most notably the 'Leyer und Schwert' (Lyre and Sword) anthology, were published posthumously to honor his contribution as both a poet and a soldier.

The publication history of these collected works often reflects 19th-century efforts to cement Körner’s legacy as a cultural icon. These volumes were designed to serve as standard domestic literary collections, often featuring neoclassical typography and austere, dignified bindings that aligned with the patriotic and heroic tone of his verses. Their reception solidified his status within the canon, positioning his works as essential reading for generations of readers interested in the intersection of German Romanticism and early-modern state building.
