Theodor Körner's Werke

Theodor Körner’s Werke serves as a foundational collection of the literary output of the 19th-century German poet and soldier, best known for his patriotic verse and his service in the Lützow Free Corps during the Napoleonic Wars. These volumes were historically published in various editions throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often intended to memorialize Körner as a national icon following his death in battle at the age of twenty-one.

The editorial approach to these collections frequently sought to frame Körner’s writing within the context of the German Wars of Liberation, emphasizing the intersection of Romanticism and militaristic nationalism. While design aesthetics shifted across different printings—ranging from modest academic cloth bindings to elaborate, ornate decorative boards—the core text remains a significant artifact of German cultural history, reflecting the era's reverence for the 'poet-warrior' archetype.
