Theodor Körners Werke: Rätsel : lyrische Spiele und Scherze ; epische Fragmente ; Erzählungen ; mündliche Erzählungen Theodor Körners ; dramatische Beiträge. 2,1

This volume is part of a nineteenth-century collected edition of the works of Theodor Körner, a German poet and dramatist whose life and career were cut short during the Napoleonic Wars. Körner became a symbol of German nationalism following his death in the Battle of Gadebusch in 1813, leading to the posthumous publication of his various literary efforts. His writings, which include lyrical poems, dramas, and short prose, were widely curated throughout the century to commemorate his status as a soldier-poet.

The editorial assembly of his scattered works, such as these specific riddles, lyrical sketches, and dramatic fragments, was intended to preserve the totality of his creative output for a public that revered his patriotic dedication. While the specific design of this iteration reflects the standard publishing aesthetics of the German Romantic period, the collection as a whole was received as both a cultural artifact and a testament to the brief, fervent literary output of a figure central to the nineteenth-century German identity.
