Provenance

Where it came from

The 'Emperors in the New World' expansion set, designated OP09, marks a significant milestone in the One Piece Card Game by focusing on the shifting power dynamics of the series' overarching narrative. This card, featuring the character Buggy, was released as a leader card to capitalize on the character's elevated status within the source material. It reflects the game's ongoing effort to translate complex manga character arcs into strategic, playable mechanics that align with the escalating stakes of the New World saga.

The visual design of this card is crafted by the game's lead illustration team to highlight Buggy's unique blend of comedic absurdity and newfound tactical influence. The art direction emphasizes the character's colorful aesthetic and signature flair, aiming to provide a distinct visual identity that stands out among the more serious, imposing figures of the set. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy, offering a playful yet mechanically viable option for those who enjoy the intricate, risk-reward playstyles associated with the character's unpredictable nature.
