Monkey.D.Luffy

The Purple Monkey D. Luffy card (OP05-060) was released in 2023 as part of the fifth main expansion for the One Piece Card Game, titled Awakening of the New Era. This set was designed to mark the first anniversary of the game's English release, introducing characters and thematic elements specifically tied to the Wano Country and Egghead story arcs. As a leader card, it was crafted to anchor deck-building strategies by utilizing the purple color archetype's focus on cost manipulation and Don! card management.

The card features artwork inspired by Luffy's Gear 5 transformation, a pivotal aesthetic shift in the series that emphasizes freedom and stylized, rubber-like combat. The illustration team behind the set aimed to capture the kinetic, whimsical nature of this form, utilizing a vibrant color palette to differentiate it from earlier, more grounded iterations of the character. Upon its arrival, the card was widely received by the competitive community as a potent leader choice, valued for both its thematic significance to the series' ongoing narrative and its mechanical utility in high-level tournament play.
