Where it came from
Tropical Tidal Wave was released as a promotional card in 2004 as part of the Nintendo Black Star Promos series. It was distributed specifically to competitors who reached the top tiers of the Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships. The card was designed to function as a powerful Stadium card within the game, reflecting the competitive nature of the environment in which it was awarded.
The card features artwork by artist Takumi Akabane, who has contributed to numerous illustrations for the Pokémon TCG. The design captures the energetic, oceanic theme associated with the tournament environment of that era. Upon its release, it became a highly sought-after item among both competitive players for its utility in gameplay and collectors for its status as a restricted trophy card.
