Balettsuiten = Ballet Suites / Schwanensee = Swan Lake · Dornröschen · The Sleeping Beauty

This release, appearing on the Capriccio label in 1987, functions as a representative entry in the late twentieth-century tradition of high-fidelity classical music anthologies. Designed to offer a focused listening experience, the collection pairs excerpts from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's most celebrated ballet scores, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. The label, Capriccio, founded in West Germany, was instrumental during this period in utilizing digital recording technology to modernize the availability of the core classical repertoire for a growing international audience.

The aesthetic presentation of this record aligns with the minimalist, functional design standards favored by European classical labels in the late 1980s. By distilling the vast, multi-act narratives of Tchaikovsky's ballets into a single volume of highlights, the release was aimed at casual listeners and students who sought to appreciate the composer's distinct orchestration and thematic richness without committing to the full-length original scores. Its reception is firmly rooted in the era's push toward making the canon more accessible through clean, efficient, and technologically crisp reissues.
