Grande Sonate In A For Guitar & Violin, etc

Released by His Master's Voice in 1965, this recording captures the chamber music of virtuoso violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini. While Paganini is primarily celebrated for his technically demanding works for solo violin, his compositions for guitar—an instrument he played proficiently—reflect a more intimate and melodic side of his output. This specific release features the collaborative efforts of classical guitarist Oscar Ghiglia and violinist Régis Pasquier, providing a mid-century interpretation of Paganini's chamber repertoire that highlights the intricate interplay between the two instruments.

The production aligns with the high-fidelity standards maintained by His Master's Voice during the 1960s, a period when the label was focused on expanding the recorded repertoire for classical guitar. The pairing of Ghiglia and Pasquier was noted for its technical precision and sensitivity, characteristics essential for navigating Paganini's score. The recording received positive attention from listeners interested in the niche intersection of violin virtuosity and classical guitar, serving as a significant addition to the chamber music discography of the era.
