Nils Holgersson

The 1991 Electrecord release of Nils Holgersson serves as a spoken-word adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf's classic 1906 Swedish children's novel, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. Originally commissioned by the National Teachers' Association of Sweden to teach children geography, the story follows a young boy transformed into a tomte who travels across the country on the back of a goose. This particular audio production was released in Romania during a period when Electrecord remained the primary state-owned label for educational and literary recordings, reflecting the label's commitment to making international classic literature accessible to local youth audiences.

The aesthetic and technical approach of this production focused on high-fidelity narration typical of Eastern European studio recordings of the era. By distilling Lagerlöf's expansive narrative into an audio format, the production aimed to preserve the pedagogical and folkloric spirit of the source material. It was received as a standard entry in the label's spoken-word catalog, valued primarily by libraries and educators for its contribution to the canon of recorded literary adaptations, ensuring the survival of this quintessential Scandinavian fable for a new generation of listeners.
