Plain-Chant Grégorien

Released under the Trianon label in the mid-20th century, this recording of Plain-Chant Grégorien captures the liturgical traditions performed by the Schola des Pères du Saint-Esprit de Chevilly. The record reflects the mid-century European interest in preserving and disseminating the solemn, monophonic melodies of Gregorian chant, a foundational element of Western sacred music that saw a resurgence in popularity during this period due to the work of theologians and scholars.

The musical direction of the project was overseen by Lucien Deiss, a notable figure in the field of liturgical music who sought to bridge the gap between traditional monastic practice and modern accessibility. Deiss aimed to capture the meditative, floating quality of the chant, emphasizing clarity and reverent vocal precision. Upon its release, the recording was well regarded within religious and musicological circles for its authentic interpretation of the ecclesiastical repertoire, serving as a functional tool for study and spiritual reflection.
