Старинная Русская Хоровая Мусыка XVII-XVIII Веков

Released by the state-run Melodiya label in 1982, this recording of Old Russian Choral Music from the 17th and 18th centuries represents a significant effort to preserve and document the liturgical and secular choral traditions of pre-Petrine and early imperial Russia. During the Soviet era, Melodiya served as the sole record manufacturer, and this particular release was part of a broader scholarly initiative to digitize and disseminate Eastern Orthodox chant and early polyphonic choral compositions to a wider audience, often curated by leading academic institutions.

The Moscow Choir, renowned for its technical precision and deep grounding in the Russian choral tradition, was selected to interpret these complex, historically layered pieces. The production aimed to emphasize the stark, resonant beauty of historical Russian vocal arrangements, focusing on the preservation of authentic tone and stylistic nuances that had been passed down through centuries of liturgical performance. The release was well-regarded by critics for its academic commitment to historical accuracy, serving as a vital reference point for students of early Russian music and choral conductors worldwide.
