Where it came from
Backup Secretary was introduced in the Code of the Duelist booster set, released internationally in 2017. As a Cyberse-type monster, it emerged during a transitional period for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game that saw the introduction of the Link Summoning mechanic, requiring players to adapt to new field layouts and monster types.
The card's design features a sleek, futuristic aesthetic typical of the Cyberse archetype, which was conceptualized to represent digital entities inhabiting the game's network environment. While common in rarity, it served a functional role for players needing to extend their plays by special summoning the monster when they already controlled a Cyberse creature, reflecting the archetype's emphasis on swarming the field.
