Backup Secretary

Backup Secretary was introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Genesis Impact booster set released in late 2020. This set was designed to introduce and support specialized archetypes like Drytron, Live☆Twin, and Magistus, with the card serving as a common piece of support for Cyberse-themed strategies. It functions as a utility monster, allowing players to Special Summon it from their hand if they control a Cyberse monster, which helps facilitate faster board building and link summoning.

The card features an aesthetic consistent with the digital, high-tech themes prevalent in the Cyberse type, which was first introduced during the VRAINS era of the franchise. Designed to be accessible as a rare, it emphasizes the functional, low-cost special summoning mechanics that define the efficiency-focused playstyle of modern tournament-level decks. Its reception among the player base has been largely pragmatic, valued primarily for its ability to increase consistency in dedicated Cyberse-type decks rather than for its individual combat prowess.
