Where it came from
Backup Secretary was originally released as a Secret Rare in the 2017 Code of the Duelist core booster set, serving as a key monster for Cyberse-themed strategies. Its inclusion in the 2018 Mega-Tin Mega Pack marked its transition into a more accessible common rarity, reflecting the common practice of reprinting staples to support players building decks centered around the newly introduced Cyberse type at the time.
The card features an aesthetic consistent with the digital, high-tech motifs associated with the VRAINS era of Yu-Gi-Oh. Designed to facilitate swarm tactics, the card's ability to special summon itself from the hand helped players rapidly build fields for Link Summoning, a mechanic that defined the competitive landscape during this period of the game.
