Provenance

Where it came from

Backup Secretary was introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Structure Deck: Cyberse Link, released in late 2017. This deck was designed to introduce the Cyberse monster type, a digital-themed archetype that arrived alongside the new Link Summoning mechanics in the VRAINS era. The card itself embodies the deck's focus on swarming the field to facilitate Link Summons, offering a simple self-special summoning condition common to utility monsters of that generation.

The visual design of the card leans into the high-tech, cybernetic aesthetic associated with the Cyberse type, utilizing a sleek, robotic character model that complements the deck's computational theme. As a common rarity card included in a pre-constructed product, it was received primarily as a functional, accessible tool for players looking to explore the Link Summoning system rather than a centerpiece for collectors, remaining a staple of the Cyberse Link release strategy.
