Provenance

Where it came from

Backup Secretary was introduced as part of the Starter Deck: Codebreaker in 2018, a product designed to introduce new players to the Link Summoning mechanics of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS era. The set focuses on the Cyberse creature type, which serves as a technological thematic anchor for the era's digital-inspired setting.

The card features an effect that allows for its special summon if a Cyberse monster is already present on the field, a common utility mechanic used to facilitate Link plays. Like many common cards from this starter deck, its design emphasizes accessibility and consistency, providing players with the foundational support needed to build out the new Cyberse-type strategies introduced during this period of the game.
