Compulsory Evacuation Device

Compulsory Evacuation Device was introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2004 Invasion of Chaos expansion, a set widely considered one of the most transformative in the game's history. Designed to provide a versatile form of non-destructive removal, the card allows players to return a monster on the field to its owner's hand. Its utility stems from its ability to bypass monster effects that provide protection against destruction, making it a staple answer to high-value threats throughout the game's evolving competitive landscape.

The card’s design reflects the strategic shift during the Invasion of Chaos era, where the game began to favor efficient, low-cost interactions that could disrupt an opponent's momentum. The artwork, which depicts a character being forcibly whisked away into a swirling portal, captures the simple yet forceful mechanics of the trap card. Over the years, the card has seen numerous reprints and varying rarities, consistently remaining a relevant tactical tool due to its status as a simple, effective response to summon-heavy deck archetypes.
