Compulsory Evacuation Device

Compulsory Evacuation Device was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the early 2000s, gaining prominence as a versatile utility card. By the time it was included as card number SDMM-EN036 in the 2010 Machina Mayhem Structure Deck, it had already established itself as a fundamental piece of defensive strategy. The card reflects a design philosophy centered on tempo control, allowing players to disrupt their opponent's board state by returning a monster to the hand, effectively mitigating threat without destroying it.

The card's design features a minimalist and functional aesthetic consistent with the standard trap card template. Within the context of the Machina Mayhem deck, which primarily showcased machine-type monsters and focused on graveyard recursion, the inclusion of Compulsory Evacuation Device provided a necessary universal answer to problematic boss monsters. It was well-received by the player base for its simplicity and efficiency, remaining a staple of competitive and casual play for years due to its adaptability against various summon types.
