Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts

Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts was introduced in the Dark Legends booster set, which served as a compilation release featuring iconic cards from the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. Originally debuting in the Metal Raiders expansion, the card was designed as a thematic companion to Berfomet, allowing players to perform a fusion summon into Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast. The design aesthetic draws heavily from 1990s fantasy tropes, blending creature-based monster concepts with the signature stylized art direction established by Kazuki Takahashi for the franchise.

As a normal monster, Gazelle occupies a foundational role in the game's mechanics, representing the era of simplistic, high-attack-value creatures that preceded the modern focus on complex graveyard effects. Within the competitive landscape, it is regarded as a nostalgic piece of the original Duel Monsters era. It has seen various reprints over the years, maintaining its status as a staple for collectors interested in the thematic lineage of the game's classic fusion monsters.
