Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts

Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts was introduced to the North American market as part of the Metal Raiders booster set, released by Konami in 2002. As a core component of the early Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, the card reflects the aesthetic shift toward more aggressive, mythological creature designs that defined the franchise's second major expansion. It was conceptualized during a period when the game was rapidly building its identity outside of Japan, bridging the gap between simple elemental monsters and the more complex fusion mechanics that would later define competitive play.

The card’s artwork, characterized by the distinct, high-contrast illustrative style favored by Kazuki Takahashi and the Konami design team, portrays the creature as a central figure in the game's evolving bestiary. While the card is categorized as a common-rarity normal monster, its design remains a recognizable piece of early-2000s hobby culture. Its enduring appeal is tied largely to its eventual role as a fusion material for Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast, a pairing that remains a nostalgic touchstone for players who grew up during the initial boom of the trading card game.
