Giant Rat

Giant Rat was first released as part of the Metal Raiders set in 2002, emerging during the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It quickly became a staple in earth-attribute decks due to its ability to special summon another earth monster from the deck upon destruction, providing essential board presence and thinning the player's deck. Its appearance in the Geargia Rampage Structure Deck in 2014, numbered SDGR-EN020, served as a functional reprint, maintaining the card's role as a classic utility tool for legacy-focused earth strategies.

The creature's design reflects the early aesthetic of the game, which leaned heavily on bestial and mythological archetypes often seen in 1990s Japanese fantasy art. As a common rarity card, it was designed for accessibility, ensuring that players could easily acquire a reliable recruiter to maintain momentum. While it has seen power creep over the decades, its simple, effective mechanics solidified its status as an iconic piece of the game's foundational card pool.
