Where it came from
Dirty Pair Flash 2 was released in 1995 as the second installment in a three-part original video animation series produced by Sunrise. This iteration served as a modern reimagining of the original 1980s Dirty Pair franchise, shifting the tone toward a slightly more serious, character-focused science fiction narrative while retaining the core dynamic of the chaotic 'Lovely Angels' duo, Kei and Yuri.
The character designs for this series were provided by Hajime Katoki, who departed from the original aesthetic to create a sleeker, more contemporary look. The production leaned heavily into the popular animation style of the mid-90s, emphasizing dynamic action sequences and complex mechanical design. While it faced the inherent challenge of updating beloved icons, the series is recognized for its technical polish and its role in keeping the franchise relevant for a new generation of fans.
