Oshougatsu da yo! Doraemon

Oshougatsu da yo! Doraemon was produced in 1979 by Asatsu DK as a television special to coincide with the New Year holiday season in Japan. This broadcast arrived at a pivotal moment for the franchise, serving as one of the early televised efforts following the debut of the 1979 anime series. It was designed to leverage the festive spirit of Oshougatsu, integrating the beloved robotic cat into seasonal traditions to solidify the character's status as a staple of Japanese family entertainment.

The visual design and narrative tone were crafted to align with the aesthetic established by the Shin-Ei Animation production team. By focusing on themes of holiday celebration and domestic warmth, the special aimed to deepen the audience's emotional connection to Doraemon and Nobita. Upon its release, it was well-received as part of a growing body of seasonal content that helped transform Doraemon into an enduring cultural icon, demonstrating the effective use of character-driven storytelling to mark important dates in the Japanese calendar.
