Spur-winged Goose

The spur-winged goose, Plectropterus gambensis, occupies a distinct niche within the waterfowl family Anatidae as the largest member of its order in Africa. Evolutionary biologists classify it as a unique species, often separated into its own subfamily, Plectropterinae, due to its divergence from traditional ducks and geese.
