Ausstellung Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

This catalogue was published in 1971 by the Galerie Roman Norbert Ketterer to accompany a major retrospective exhibition of works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. It serves as a primary historical record of the gallery's significant efforts during the mid-20th century to curate and formalize the legacy of the Die Brücke movement. The publication highlights the gallery’s long-standing role as a central authority in the valuation and preservation of German Expressionist art, specifically focusing on the evocative, angular compositions that defined Kirchner’s career.

The design of the catalogue reflects the mid-century European approach to art documentation, prioritizing clean typography and high-contrast reproductions that honor the intensity of Kirchner's woodcuts and paintings. The curation within these pages aims to contextualize the artist’s turbulent evolution from his time in Dresden and Berlin to his later years in Davos. Upon its release, the volume was received as an essential reference for scholars and collectors, cementing the Galerie Roman Norbert Ketterer’s status as a premier venue for those interested in the primary visual language of early 20th-century modernism.
