Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

This volume serves as a comprehensive scholarly survey of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a central figure in the German Expressionist movement and a founding member of the artist group Die Brücke. Published in 2010 by Modo Verlag, the book situates Kirchner’s work within the radical shifts of early 20th-century European art, examining his intense use of color and his emotive, distorted depictions of urban life and the human form.

The publication acts as a critical retrospective of Kirchner's prolific career, spanning his vibrant Berlin street scenes and his later, more introspective alpine landscapes created in Davos. By drawing on archival documents and critical analysis, the text contextualizes how Kirchner’s vision—heavily influenced by primitive art and Nietzschean philosophy—sought to bridge the divide between psychological interiority and the rapidly modernizing world of the Weimar era.
