Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige

Originally commissioned by the National Teachers' Association of Sweden and published in two volumes between 1906 and 1907, Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige was written by Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf. The project was intended as a geography textbook for Swedish primary schools, but Lagerlöf transformed the educational mandate into a masterpiece of children's literature, weaving folklore and environmental themes into the protagonist's transformative journey across the Swedish landscape.

The 1994 edition published by Bonnier Carlsen serves as a modern reprint of this classic, maintaining the spirit of the original narrative while introducing the story to a new generation of readers. The design reflects the enduring legacy of the text, often accompanied by classic illustrations that evoke the turn-of-the-century aesthetic, ensuring that the visual experience remains tethered to the cultural context of Lagerlöf's original vision which sought to foster a sense of national identity and appreciation for nature.
