Pièces De Théorbe

Released under the Capriccio label, this recording features the theorbo works of Robert de Visée, a prolific composer and musician who served as a chamber music tutor to King Louis XIV. The theorbo, a large lute with extended bass strings, was a centerpiece of the French Baroque era, and de Visée’s compositions are celebrated for their idiomatic sophistication and the delicate, resonant textures they bring to the instrument.

Yasunori Imamura, a highly regarded specialist in early music, performs these pieces with a focus on historical accuracy and nuanced interpretation. The recording is widely appreciated by early music enthusiasts for its clean production and Imamura’s ability to capture the intimate, courtly atmosphere of the seventeenth-century French salon, establishing it as a definitive modern reference for de Visée's solo repertoire.
