Solosonaten Und Trios von Leopold Mozart

Released in 2012 by Oehms Classics, this recording project serves as a focused exploration of the chamber music repertoire of Leopold Mozart, the father and teacher of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. While often overshadowed by his son, Leopold was a significant composer and musical theorist in his own right, and this collection aims to highlight his contribution to the development of the mid-18th-century sonata and trio forms, providing listeners with a clearer sense of the musical environment that shaped his famous son.

The recording features performances by harpsichordist Christine Schornsheim, cellist Sebastian Hess, and violinist Rüdiger Lotter. The artists utilized historically informed performance practices to capture the specific textures and stylistic nuances of the period. The album was met with favorable attention from the classical music community, which lauded the ensemble for their scholarly approach and technical precision in bringing these lesser-known works to a modern audience.
