Where it came from
Released in 2010 by Oehms Classics, this recording explores the musical traditions of the Bavarian court during the 18th century. The Neue Hofkapelle München, under the direction of Rüdiger Lotter, sought to recreate the specific soundscape of Munich's festive liturgical celebrations, featuring works by composers such as Johann Caspar Kerll and Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco. The project reflects the ensemble's dedication to historically informed performance practices.
The album is noted for its focus on regional baroque textures and the integration of period-accurate instrumental techniques. By reviving manuscripts housed in Bavarian archives, the performers aimed to provide a scholarly yet atmospheric perspective on secular and sacred traditions of the era. The release was received as a contribution to the preservation of Munich's distinct musical heritage, emphasizing the refined aesthetic favored by the Wittelsbach electors.
