The Eleanor Hovda Collection

The Eleanor Hovda Collection, released by Innova Recordings in 2012, serves as a retrospective anthology of the work of American composer Eleanor Hovda. Hovda was known for her immersive, ecologically minded approach to composition, often drawing inspiration from landscape and natural phenomena. This collection was curated to preserve her legacy following her passing, gathering various chamber and orchestral works that reflect her idiosyncratic use of silence, resonant textures, and microtonal sensibilities.

The album was produced under the auspices of the American Composers Forum, which manages the Innova label to document significant contemporary American music. The design and selection reflect Hovda’s dedication to 'sounding' environments rather than merely constructing melodies, a stylistic choice that often placed her in the avant-garde tradition of the late 20th century. Upon its release, the collection was received by the classical music community as a vital archival contribution, providing a structured overview of an artist whose body of work was frequently scattered across smaller commissions and independent ensembles.
