1.25 Euro ("Gall Fer" Western capercaillie)

The 1.25 Euro coin featuring the Western capercaillie, or 'Gall Fer' in Catalan, was issued by the Principality of Andorra in 2023. This piece is part of an ongoing series dedicated to the unique fauna of the Andorran Pyrenees, a region where the capercaillie is considered a symbolic, albeit vulnerable, species. The choice of denomination—1.25 Euros—is specific to Andorran commemorative coinage, which often utilizes unconventional values to distinguish its collector series from standard euro currency issued by larger eurozone nations.

The design highlights the natural characteristics of the capercaillie, emphasizing its role in the biodiversity of the microstate. The aesthetic approach for this series typically favors detailed, realistic depictions intended to appeal to both numismatic collectors and nature enthusiasts. By issuing these coins, Andorra provides a tangible record of its environmental conservation efforts, aiming to raise awareness for protected wildlife through high-quality minting standards that reflect the country's prestige as a sovereign issuer of the euro.
