Where it came from
This 1.25 Euro coin was issued by the Principality of Andorra in 2024 to honor the Virgin of Canòlich, the patron saint of the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria. It continues a tradition of numismatic tributes to the nation's rich religious and cultural heritage, serving both as a commemorative piece for collectors and a symbol of local identity. The coin is part of an ongoing series that highlights the unique historical connection between Andorra and its traditional pilgrimage sites.
The design features an artistic interpretation of Our Lady of Canòlich, reflecting the iconography found within the sanctuary that sits high in the Andorranean mountains. The aesthetic choices focus on traditional religious motifs, rendered with the precision typical of modern minting processes. Like many of Andorra's non-circulating commemorative coins, this piece is intended primarily for the numismatic market, aimed at collectors who appreciate the blend of ecclesiastical history and modern European coin design.
