Where it came from
The 2015 Andorran 2 Euro commemorative coin was issued to celebrate the implementation of the Monetary Agreement between the Principality of Andorra and the European Union. This agreement, which officially entered into force in 2012, allowed Andorra to use the euro as its official currency and to mint its own euro coins, marking a significant step in the integration of the small nation into the European financial landscape.
The coin features a design centered on the coat of arms of Andorra, framed by the inscription 'ANDORRA' and the motto 'VIRTUS UNITA FORTIOR', meaning 'United virtue is stronger'. The design was intended to convey the dual heritage of the country, reflecting its institutional stability and its formal partnership with the European Union. Upon its release, it was well-received by numismatists as a key piece in the limited series of Andorran commemorative coins, which are often sought after due to the relatively low mintages compared to larger member states.
