The 2014 Andorra 2 Euro coin marks a significant milestone in the principality's numismatic history, as it represents the first year Andorra issued its own euro coinage following a formal monetary agreement with the European Union. Prior to this issuance, the country lacked its own national coinage, relying on the French franc and Spanish peseta, and subsequently the euro, as de facto legal tender without the right to mint its own currency.

The design of the 2 Euro coin features the national coat of arms of Andorra, which includes the mitre and crozier of the Bishop of Urgell alongside the two bulls of Béarn. This heraldic composition reflects the unique co-principality structure of the state. The design was adopted to assert Andorra's sovereign identity within the Eurozone, and while the coins were eagerly sought after by collectors upon release due to the country's limited annual minting quotas, they are intended for circulation within the European monetary framework.
