Where it came from
The 2021 Andorran 2 Euro commemorative coin was issued to honor the country's senior citizens during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Released in a limited circulation of 70,000 pieces, the coin serves as a memorial to the resilience of the elderly population who were disproportionately affected by the health crisis and the resulting social isolation.
The design features a composition of elderly people surrounded by graphic elements representing the pandemic, including a stylized depiction of the SARS-CoV-2 virus structure. The imagery is intended to act as a permanent record of a challenging period in modern history, reflecting both the vulnerability of the aged and the collective effort to protect them during the peak of the international medical emergency.
