Where it came from
The 2021 French 2 Euro commemorative coin was minted by the Monnaie de Paris to celebrate the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Released in late 2021, the coin serves as the first in a series of designs issued annually through 2024 to build national anticipation for the event, marking France's role as the host nation for the Summer Games.
The design, created by the artistic team at the Monnaie de Paris, features Marianne, the national symbol of the French Republic, depicted in a spirited athletic pose representative of a runner. The background incorporates a stylised silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, seamlessly blending the iconography of the host city with the Olympic spirit. The piece was well-received by numismatists for its elegant integration of traditional French motifs with modern sporting themes.
