2 Francs

The 2 Francs coin from French Cameroon, dated 1924, was minted during the period of the French mandate following the First World War. When the League of Nations divided the former German colony of Kamerun between France and Britain, France introduced its own currency system to integrate the territory into the colonial economic sphere. These coins were produced at the Paris Mint, reflecting the administrative transition and the French effort to standardize commerce across their African territories.

The design of this series is characteristic of French colonial coinage, typically featuring symbolic representations of the French Republic, such as the Marianne or national emblems, contrasted with botanical motifs or regional iconography. These pieces were designed to be functional tokens of colonial exchange, intended to facilitate trade and taxation within the mandate. While they served as standard legal tender for the local population, they are now viewed by numismatists as tangible artifacts of the geopolitical reorganization of West Africa in the early twentieth century.
