Where it came from
The 3 Euro Tiger coin was minted by the Austrian Mint in 2017 as the inaugural release of the 'Colourful Creatures' series. This series was designed to showcase the diversity of the animal kingdom through a unique numismatic format, featuring twelve different animals over the course of several years. The choice of a 3 Euro denomination is specific to the Austrian Mint's commemorative program, creating a distinct collectible that stands apart from standard circulation currency.
The coin's design process focused on utilizing advanced minting technology to achieve high-relief detail and vibrant color application. The obverse features a highly stylized, color-printed tiger surrounded by silhouettes of other animals, while the reverse displays a uniform design shared by all coins in the series, featuring the silhouettes of the twelve animals in the collection. These coins were received well by the collecting community for their innovative aesthetic, serving as both a legal tender curiosity and a piece of educational numismatic art.
