Where it came from
The 3 Euro coin series from Austria, which includes this 2025 'Troll' issue, represents a creative departure from standard circulating currency. Produced by the Austrian Mint, these coins are designed as legal tender within Austria but are primarily marketed toward collectors due to their non-standard denomination and base-metal composition. The series is particularly noted for its use of color-printing technology and, in many cases, luminescence, which allows the designs to glow in the dark.
The Troll coin is part of the 'Fabulous Creatures' series, a thematic collection exploring folklore and mythology through numismatic art. The design typically features intricate, stylized depictions of legendary beasts, aiming to evoke a sense of whimsy and wonder. These coins are consistently well-received by collectors for their high production quality, affordable price point, and the imaginative narratives they bring to the hobby of coin collecting.
