Where it came from
The 2005 Canadian five-cent coin, known as the Victory nickel, was issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Allied victory in the Second World War. It replaced the traditional beaver design for that year to honor the contribution of Canadians to the war effort, particularly the industrial mobilization on the home front that supported the troops abroad.
The coin features a design by Jamie Desrochers, which depicts a torch surrounded by the V symbol, representing the Victory nickel issued between 1943 and 1945. The design was intended to evoke the morale-boosting imagery of the original wartime coinage, and it was widely received by collectors as a poignant tribute to the veterans and workers of the 1940s.
