Where it came from
Comic X-Eros was a long-running adult-oriented anthology series that gained a cult following in the 1990s and early 2000s. Published by Eros Comix, an imprint of Fantagraphics Books, the series was established to provide a platform for erotic graphic storytelling that emphasized artistic merit and narrative depth within the adult genre. Issue #122 appeared during a period when the imprint was actively curating work from international illustrators and underground comics veterans, aiming to distinguish its catalog from more conventional adult publications.
The design and content of the issue reflected the imprint's standard commitment to showcasing diverse illustrative styles, often blending traditional comic book aesthetics with mature, explicit themes. Like many issues in this anthology, #122 was produced as a low-cost, saddle-stitched periodical intended for the specialty comic shop market. It was received primarily by a niche audience of collectors who appreciated the specific blend of transgressive art and sequential storytelling that defined the Eros Comix legacy.
