Where it came from
Dark Horse Presents #119 was published in May 1997 as part of Dark Horse Comics' long-running anthology series. This title served as a crucial launchpad for the company, designed to showcase a mix of established industry talent and experimental independent creators. By the late 1990s, the series had become a staple of the publisher's identity, offering a platform for serialized stories that did not fit the traditional monthly single-character comic book format.
This specific issue is notable for its contribution to the ongoing narrative arcs of several Dark Horse properties, featuring work from creators like Chris Warner and others who defined the company's house style. The design of the issue followed the established aesthetic of the series, emphasizing a diverse range of genres—from noir-inspired crime dramas to science fiction—meant to appeal to an audience looking for variety beyond the superhero mainstream. Like many issues in the run, it was received as a reliable venue for high-quality storytelling and art, helping to maintain the series' reputation as an essential pillar of independent comics.
